Tech4Bet, a Czech company that develops and licenses online slot games, recently decided to expand its business beyond Europe, starting with a new client in Brazil. For that, they chose AWS Cloud to set up a secure, high-performance environment that delivers low latency and supports their growth.

Tech4Bet creates online slot games and sells them to clients like online casinos. The games are integrated into casino websites, where users can play them directly. Traditionally, the company has served mostly Czech clients from a local data center, using a domestic cloud provider within the Czech Republic. This expansion to Brazil, their first project outside of Europe, brought a set of new challenges.

Overcoming challenges in a competitive industry

Moving overseas presented Tech4Bet with specific challenges. They needed low latency to keep everything running fast, so users in Brazil wouldn’t face delays. Gaming pulls in a lot of data, so the setup had to be quick enough to keep things smooth and enjoyable.

Hosting data in Europe wasn’t an option due to the added delays, and using AWS’s São Paulo data center allowed Tech4Bet to keep everything running smoothly while staying well-positioned for any future regulatory changes.

The initial calls with Revolgy’s team explored all the options, from tackling database scaling to saving on costs running only the front end in Brazil (São Paulo’s cloud hosting can run nearly double what it costs in Europe). There were talks about using Aurora for database flexibility, weighing the cost of running things in São Paulo, and finding the balance between performance and budget.

Getting funding from the Migration Acceleration Program

After evaluating the options, Tech4Bet and Revolgy decided that Amazon Web Services’ public cloud was the best fit for this project. AWS’s São Paulo data center allowed Tech4Bet to keep data within Brazil and keep latency low.

The Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) from AWS offered funding and support throughout the migration, providing the resources to help with assessment, design, and implementation. Revolgy’s role was to guide Tech4Bet through every step of the setup on AWS, from initial planning to deployment. Our experience with AWS helped Tech4Bet establish a reliable cloud setup, even without their previous experience with a public cloud.

“We used the Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) to help Tech4Bet with the full design and architecture — they needed us to map it out, build it, and get it running. They’re completely new to AWS, so we set up a custom landing zone and environment designed to meet their needs and scale with their project.” — Petr Renč, Senior Account Manager, Revolgy

Building a solid foundation on AWS

To get Tech4Bet set up on AWS, Revolgy used a “lift, tinker, and shift” approach. Instead of a complete rebuild, we kept Tech4Bet’s existing system while improving it to make the most of AWS’s cloud features.

Revolgy prepared a custom AWS landing zone, ensuring a secure and flexible setup that aligned with Tech4Bet’s requirements. They used S3 for storing game files, RDS for managing databases, and CloudFront to distribute content efficiently, which allowed Tech4Bet’s games to load faster for users.

Revolgy also set up a multi-zone disaster recovery (DR) plan that would allow Tech4Bet to keep running smoothly in case of a system failure. This plan included multi-zone backups, and they used Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to make recovery and scaling as efficient as possible.

“We set Tech4Bet up on AWS with a secure, scalable environment using S3 for storage and RDS for databases, so they can grow without worrying about downtime. The goal was to give them a solid, reliable foundation that meets Brazil’s data rules and keeps things running smoothly for their users.”

Key benefits of moving to AWS

  • Enhanced performance: Hosting in São Paulo lowered latency, providing users in Brazil with faster, more responsive gaming.
  • Regulatory compliance: Hosting data locally ensured low latency for users in Brazil while meeting the security standards needed to operate in the betting industry. Additionally, the setup positions Tech4Bet for any future regulatory requirements.
  • Scalability on demand: AWS’s managed services and Revolgy’s IaC approach made it easy for Tech4Bet to adjust resources based on demand. The setup could scale up or down to handle spikes in user activity, especially during peak gaming times.
  • Streamlined operations: Using tools like CloudWatch and CloudTrail simplified monitoring and compliance, allowing Tech4Bet’s team to focus on game development rather than day-to-day infrastructure management. AWS’s managed services helped automate essential processes, reducing the operational workload on Tech4Bet’s team.

“Using AWS’s São Paulo data center gives us the low latency we need to keep users happy while staying ahead of potential regulatory changes in terms of data residency. Plus, the ability to scale easily means we can focus on growing our business without worrying about performance.”

— Pavel Kříž, CTO, Tech4Bet

With AWS set up, Tech4Bet is geared up to keep growing across South America and wherever else they’re headed next. This setup doesn’t just cover what they need right now; it’s built to grow with them. Now, Tech4Bet can focus on what they do best while Revolgy and AWS keep everything running smoothly in the background.
